But seriously, for the most part this is a great group of people and I too do not want to allow Gawker media to make money from my clicks.

Well, one of us if we had the server space could host a forum, could make a acebook group or something similar and there’s an 8ch board laying unused that some guy made.

There’s no ads on kinja blogs from what I can tell, so I don’t see how they’re making money off of us

I don’t bookface, too much drama in the past, I quit right after I got back from Fukushima, Japan and officially deleted it all in 2013.

Why not just create an account under your Oppo screen name, and use it only for Oppositetalk?

We need someone with web hosting privileges to set up a simple machines forum for us.

Does Gawker Media make money off Oppositelock? I think it actually costs them money, rather than makes them money... food for thought

Sounds good to me. When you set it up, please link it to here so that the transfer can begin.

Lol, I would need more than one obscure Oppo’s backing on this. Also, the cost to keep it cool and running would need to be offset by ads....

But how many are actually goin gto use it.....
Also, we would need to open source a web interface for use. and I would need to get even more storage for the inevitable gif dumps.

That's why you use the Simple Machines interface, and make it so that people can only hotlink pics.

Let me get this straight, folks are bent out of shape for sensational journalism (that’s being generious here) by a sensational journalism internet story from a sensational journalism news outlet?

Userbase creates clicks. The majority of Opponauts visit other Gawker properties as well. Also there’s the whole crossposting thing which generates content and revenue.

I don’t think oppositelock.kinja.com is included in the click counts provided to advertisers. I didn’t think about the fact that the crossposting from Oppo to the front page does generate content/revenue.

You’re right, that may have changed when they divorced the sub-blogs. However we are still supporting Gawker properties as a whole just by being here and using their - albeit shitty - commenting platform

http://talk.opposite-lock.org/ Threw something together with an idle evening- Don’t know if anyone else has done anything. Decently hosted and discourse is pretty neat for forum discussions. Obviously a WIP! Easy enough to scale up if people actually thought it was worth it.
